If you have the time a visit Holkham on the north Norfolk coast it's well worth the outing. Pack a hearty picnic with some hot coffee in a flask and you can walk for hours over the vast dune systems which stretch for miles. With the windblown sands this is a living growing coastline unlike the coastline to the east which is eroding. Tall dune islands on the foreshore are a good vantage point but can change overnight after severe storms and is a reminder that the landscape is an ever changing environment where the sea and the sky do battle on a daily basis. A turmoil of wind and waves sweeps across the shore while visitors struggle to stand upright against a biting north sea breeze. If you get there at the right time you could even come face to face with the queen riding across the sands.
